Chiro and Golf

Chiropractic adjustments can help you improve your posture, flexibility and decrease the risk of injury. Chiropractic adjustments are recommended for people who play regular sports and in particular; golfers. A research published by the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine has confirmed that most pro golfers receive regular chiropractic treatment to improve their overall performance and release tension in the spine.

With chiropractic care, it can reduce back pain through releasing stress and stiffness around your neck and spine whilst also increasing your performance to do well when playing golf. Injuries are frequent and prone when playing golf so it is pivotal to receive treatment as soon as possible. A golf swing permeates an extreme amount of compressive force up to 10 times a person’s body weight which is exerted on the spine.

It is also stated by Dr, Van Biezen that the “big reason why chiropractors are being more utilised in sports (is because) players who regularly use chiropractors or travel with them full time stay healthier and don’t get injured as frequently as players who do not use chiropractic”.

The physicality and excessive movement to the joints can lead to bad posture and stiffness around the neck and back. Chiropractors can help in easing the pain in surrounding joints and release tension to make it more mobile and flexible. Professional golf players such as Tiger Woods and Padraig Harrington have also received chiropractic care as a form of rehabilitation in between tournaments. However it is not only Professional golf players who can benefit from a chiropractic adjustment but also with everyday casual golfers.

The three most common causes of injuries during golf is due to poor posture, lack of flexibility and wrong swing mechanics. These wrong techniques and habits can result in back and shoulder problems which can worsen over time when it is not treated properly. Chiropractors can hence alleviate the pain and adjust your posture to help with not only how you play but also in rehabilitating after a game.
